CHRISTMAS IN PURPLE!

I've have suddenly become obsessed with purple! It began innocently after
I retired a few years ago!

I even wanted purple hair but was too chicken to try it!!  I am on the hunt for a mixed purple and grey wig! I haven't been too successful find purple clothes that I like.  My goal for the new year is finding fashionable purple clothes!

I have to buy a new Christmas tree this year.
I discovered that my dog Milo chewed off the plug connections for
my old pre-lit tree. I thought he was just having fun playing with the branches!

I realized that getting a new Christmas tree
wasn't a bad thing. This would be my chance to try a PURPLE CHRISTMAS TREE!  I have
pitched all of my traditional red and green Christmas ornaments and plan
to donate them. I went to my local stores looking for a purple Christmas tree but was unsuccessful! The
store clerks told me that colored Christmas trees were the trend three years ago!

I had to settle for a traditional pre-lit green Christmas tree. I won't be outdone! I'll just decorate my Christmas tree with purple trimmings!  I was blessed to find a large purple
bow and purple Christmas tree skirt:

I was couldn't believe I found purple metallic garland, snowmen, and
purple cupcake liners at my local
dollar store. I used purple nail polish
to paint the snowmen. I made butterflies with the cupcake liners:

I received coupons in my email
from the A.C. Moore craft store.
I went there and they were having
a sale on Christmas Tree decorations!!  I found a box of purple pine cone-
mini bulb picks marked down 2 for $2.00:

I rummaged through my leftover craft supplies.
I had some purple card stock and silver pipe cleaners. I decided to used an angel template to cut out purple angels. I trimmed them with
silver beads, silver ribbon, purple gems, and mini purple flowers:

I checked out Walmarts Christmas section and found pretty purple butterflies. They only had two left!
I also bought a bundle of purple Christmas tree bulbs:

The purple Christmas Tree at the
top of my blog is my decorated tree.
It looks pretty good!

This year's DIY purple ornaments worked out since I couldn't find a
lot of store-bought ones. I plan to
start collecting purple ornaments
in the future. My DIY ornaments
will be discarded when I buy enough collectibles.

THIS SENIOR LADY USES GOOD TOOLS!

http://clipart-library.com

I realized that a lot of my senior lady friends have stopped cooking meals. They live alone and their grown children have left home. They longer desire to prepare a full course
meal and prefer to "eat out".

I still like to cook sometimes and
treat my friends to brunch
once or twice a year. I like to cook breakfast for them because
it does not require as much work
as a  dinner meal.

Regardless of what I am cooking,
I need quality kitchen gadgets and tools. The grip in my hands
is not as good as it once was.
My son told me, that it was dangerous for me to keep using dull kitchen knives. He said that a dull knife and a weak grip was not a good combination. He also noticed my messy cuts of meat at the dinner table.

My son's hobby is making custom
made knives for hunting and
construction.  He has also started  offering a new service-  knife sharpening. He has met men
who upholster car seats and
furniture that need their tools sharpened.  He was also
concerned about people using
dull kitchen knives.

His customers are happy because
he has sharpened their tools. Their production and number of customers have increased.

I JUST WANT TO BE COOL!

Tokkoro.com

It has been too hot this summer!
The temperature has soared past ninety for the past 2 weeks.
My container gardens are flourishing, Thank God! They love the sun and heat if I keep them watered twice a day!
I am loving my air conditioner so,
I get back home from running errands as so as possible.

This hot weather made me recall an argument me and my mom have had for years.  Which is cooler in the summer dresses or shorts?

I say it depends! The fabric, color,
and style of the dress is important.
The dress must be made from cotton gauze,  rayon, or cotton blend fabric.
I say yes, dresses are cooler. I know
the crinkle gauze dress has a wrinkled look. But the dresses are dainty and feminine so I overlook the crinkles.
A lot of my friends like linen but I don't. It's hard to keep from looking like a rumpled mess. I don't like to iron clothes.  Linen clothes  require some touch up if you want a crisp look. Linen fabric has improved some since you can buy linen blends now . But once I sat down there was still crease in the middle.

My summer dresses must be collar free,  v-neck with short or cap sleeves. I am past the age for mini or over the knee dresses. I usually wear midi length.  I learned the hard way that the color of the fabric does matter.
My mom said don't wear dark colors in the summer. I thought she was just old fashioned. I wore a black dress to my son's outdoor graduation and almost passed out.  So Mom knew best!

I wear pastel-colored cotton blend long pants to church when the temperature is below ninety.

Mom and I  have both agree that capri pants are a dream come true. We wear them to church tea parties and to eat out.  Both of us are glad that they seem to a fashion trend that is here to stay!

TRENDY & COOL SENIOR LADY!

hip2save.com

I did the "Big Chop" to my hair years ago. A hot summer and experiencing menopause at the same time did me in! I got relief by cutting my hair short, wearing cotton summer dresses, and
lounging in rooms with plenty of air conditioning.

The trauma of menopause is over
but I still hate feeling hot.  I'm still wearing my short afro hairstyle because it's cool and very low maintenance.  A great sulfate-free shampoo/conditioner and hair gel
are all I need. Here are my go-to hair
products:

https://www.amazon.com

I stopped using hair dye a few years ago. I have learned to love my salt and pepper shade of grey! Who knew that
grey hair would be a current trend! I guess I am a Trendy Senior Lady!!

Sometimes I get bored with this  Afro  hairsyle. That's why I fell in love with the Taper Style hair cut. I got frustrated with finding a dependable barber stylist.  I let my Taper grow out. Now I'm wearing a simple short Afro.
I can maintain this style myself!!

I have invested in scarves, hats, and fancy earrings. This added flare to my to my style. I wear large fancy colorful earrings with my Afro. I have over 20 pairs of earrings on my wall!

I have been collecting scarves since
I was in college. I decided to get them out of my dresser drawers. Some
days I wear a colorful scarf on my
head and fluff out my hair in the back.

I feel black and beautiful when I meet
my friends for lunch. I am not alone

wearing my short afro. I have noticed
plenty of Senior women wearing short afros or pixie hair styles.

ENJOYING NATURE IN MY YARD!

MY CONTAINER GARDEN

I love spring and summer because I can sit on my porch and enjoy a quiet moment or two.   I get up before my family arises and the rat race begins.  My first cup of coffee goes down so smooth and I can sip as loud as I want. There are two doves sitting on the power lines in front of my house.
They visit often and  I have named them Abraham and Sarah.

I have already put out my hummingbird feeder which
have filled with sugar water.
I used to buy that red stuff
until I read it was bad for the hummingbirds.  The author
stated that the red dye that was
added to attract these birds was harmful to them. I started making
my own formula:

1/2 cup spring water
1/8 cup  sugar (heaping)

I like to buy the mini feeders because
I can replenish them before the sugar solution spoils.  They are also easier to clean. The package also includes a wire hook which I insert inside my flower pot.

The hummingbirds fight a lot and zoom too close to my head sometimes. They are so cute. I usually get visits from
the ruby throat and green ones.  I
took a picture of a hummingbird with
my cell phone camera.

My new visitor to my home, is a
wild bunny. This is amazing because
I have owned dogs for several years. Therefore, all the rabbits disappeared. This bunny goes under my porch and apparently likes my grass.  I have a small garden in my backyard and container gardens in my front yard.

Believe it or not, the bunny hasn't
eaten anything yet.  Yesterday
little bunny made a terrible mistake.
He decided to graze in my backyard.
My dog Milo chased him around the yard several times. This chase scene was funny because my dachshund
mix pooch couldn't catch him! His
legs were too short!

I have really been blessed this spring
by nature!  There were special scenes
in my yard to enjoy with my first cup
of coffee!

HOLIDAY BREAKFAST BREAD!

My children are grown and I am retired. Therefore,  gourmet cooking is my new passion. I am a foodie who tries to cook some of the Mexican...
