SENIOR LADY: MULTIPLIES PLANTS!! 🌵🌵
CHRISTMAS CACTUS
I usually asked my son to buy me a Poinsettia
or Christmas cactus for one of my Christmas
gifts each year. He decided to get a Christmas
cactus last Christmas. I love this plant because
it looks exotic. My cactus usually dies within
six months. I search online for best method to
use for plant care. I try to follow the advice
given by the gardeners. I am still unable to
keep my cactus alive for an extended period
of time.
I decided to place my Christmas cactus outside this
year. I hoped nature would improve my chances of
keeping it alive longer. It receives part shade and
it has doubled in size.
I decided take advantage of this new growth.
I'll use cuttings to multiply this plant. I'll have
baby cactus plants on hand in case the mother
plant dies in the future. The mother Christmas
cactus will be brought inside before the winter
frost arrives. Sometimes the shock from temp
change can affect plants. I'll try to bring the
cactus in at night when the night temps start
getting cooler. Hopefully, this action will help
acclimate it to the new temp in my house.
I took twelve cuttings off the mother cactus
plant. I placed them in a window box style
planter. The planter was placed underneath
a desk lamp with bright light. I realize all of
the cuttings may not live. So far, only two
look unhealthy.
The Christmas cactus will be brought in
the house when it's almost time for the
winter frost. I will have to monitor this
plant so it won't experience plant shock.
Some plants have to adapt to the climate
change from outside to inside the house.
These plants can look wilted and unhealthy
for a few weeks. Once they adjust to the
new environment, they will look good.
PORTULACA & POTHOS PLANTS
I will be transplanting these two plants
from water to soil soon. I want them to
develop lots of roots. Transplanting can
also cause plant shock. They will require
monitoring to see how they handle the
change in environment.
A blog will be done about the transplant
process of these two plants at a later date.
