SENIOR LADY: MOTHER'S DAY PROJECT!
in September, so that I would be finished in December.
I included crosses with my Christmas gifts. I decided
to keep wooden crosses on hand. Unfortunately, I
didn't purchase crosses when I saw them at my local
dollar store last year. This year, there hasn't been any
wooden crosses in stock. The online sites I visited
had plenty of three, five, nine, and twelve inch wooden
crosses. I chose to buy a pack of twelve, five-inch
wooden crosses. I completely forgot about the crosses.
I recently found them tucked under some fabric.
I decided to decorate the crosses for Mother's Day
gifts. I have plenty of friends and family members
that are mothers or grandmothers.
I rummaged through my craft supplies and found
faux gems and crystals and bottles of paint. I spent
the whole week working on this project. These
decorated crosses with be given out Sunday.
HAND PAINTED CROSSES
NEED:
5 inch Wood Crosses with Hanging String
Acrylic paint, Fave Colors
Faux gemstones & Crystals, Fave Colors
Tools:
Glue gun & Glue sticks
Paint brushes
Scissors
Recycled Newspaper or Drop Cloth
DIRECTIONS:
Lay down newspaper to void staining
furniture/surfaces. Paint front and back
of crosses desired colors. Let each side dry
completely before embellishing.
Heat up your glue gun. While gun is heating,
sort your gems and crystals to match the color
of your crosses. You have option of gluing gems
and crystals on edge and/or center of the crosses.
Arrange the embellishments on cross to choose
your design. Glue gems and crystals securely on the
crosses.
My hanging strings were 14 inches long, so I cut
them in half. Pull string through the hole at
top of cross. Tie small knot to join both ends
of the string. Be sure and leave enough room
to hang string on nail or hook.
I will continue to search for seven inch unfinished
wooden crosses. Maybe the stores were just out of
stock. I prefer using this size for gifts. I'll be using
my next batch of crosses for birthday gifts.
