SENIOR LADY: NICE LOOKING YARD: INEXPENSIVE YEAH!
I love to look at the front yard decorations,
in neighborhoods. I was traveling in a small
town called Turkey. One front yard had pots
of flowers in two colorful vintage metal chairs.
My Mom and I thought this was a great idea. We
couldn't wait to get home. We challenged each
other to see who could recreate this decor.
My local dollar store had so many beautiful yard
decorations this year. I was inspired, so I bought
several of them.
RAILING PLANTERS: FAUX PLANTS:
VARIEGATED GRASS, WHITE LILIES, WHITE AGAPANTHUS, METAL HUMMINGBIRD SIGNS
I recall seeing old wash tubs full of "Hens
and Chicks" plants. Most of the senior women
I visited in the rural area had them all over their
yard. They explained that each generation grew
them. They were hardy little plants that returned
each year. They wouldn't share cuttings of the plants.
I was told to buy them at the local Farmers' Market.
I was thrilled when my local "big box" store had them
in the garden center. They were less than $3 each.
I placed them in vinyl shoe boxes. The mother hen
already has chicks peeking out.
I'm still looking for interesting yard decor from
dollar stores and thrift stores. I do visit these
stores weekly because they replenish their
stock often.
