SENIOR LADY: EASTER CROSS PROJECT!
I discovered years ago its a good idea check
children's craft websites. They have a lot of
creative and economical craft ideas. Of course,
I embellish the craft project, so that it appeals
to adults.
One of the craft projects on my favorite children's
site used recycled egg cartons. The teacher made
the egg carton into a cross. I stopped discarding
my egg cartons. I collected twenty colored egg
cartons. I made them into crosses and gave
them as gifts for Easter. My friends and family
members really liked the crosses. They displayed
them every Easter holiday. The crosses finally fell
apart a few years later, so they requested new ones.
Unfortunately, I had stopped making them and no
longer saved egg cartons.
I was searching online recently for religious Easter
craft ideas. I saw several crosses made recycled wood
and craft sticks. I was cleaning out out my fridge and
was getting ready to discard an egg carton. This was
an egg carton for organic eggs. The carton was made
from brown cardboard. I suddenly remembered the
Easter crosses that I made several years ago. I could
make a rustic Easter cross. Here is a the details for
my Easter cross:
NEED:
1-Recycled Cardboard Egg Carton(for dozen eggs)
Brown Acrylic Paint ( optional)
4-Faux Purple Flower Stems ( small flower heads)
1 oz bag Easter Grass, green
2-Purple, 2-Blue, Small Easter Eggs
TOOLS:
Scissors
Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
Paint brush\ Foam Paint Brush
Painting Tray/ Cup for Water
INSTRUCTIONS:
Use scissors to cut lid from egg carton. Cut the
lid in half. Place ends of lid together to form a
7 inch tray. The ends may have to overlap to get
7 inches. Glue tray together. Set tray aside to dry.
Cut the egg carton in half so you have a row of
6 egg cups on each side.
Remove one cup off one of the 6 cups. This 5 egg cup strip needs to be glued over 6 cup strip to form a
cross. Try to position the cross so the arm has two
egg cups on each side.
of brown. My egg tray had ads on it which needed
to be covered up. I wanted my tray and cross to be
the same color. I didn't dilute the paint so I only
needed two coats of paint on the cross and tray.
Let cross and tray dry completely.
Glue the cross in the middle of the tray. I straightened
the cross by surrounding it with the grass and eggs.
I glued the grass to bottom of the tray. Glued the
eggs onto the grass so they were against the cross.
The flowers stems may have to be cut to fit the front
of the cross. I glued the ends of the flowers together,
Then glued them in front of the cross. I covered ends
of flowers and bottom of cross with grass.
It's hard for me to say how much the supplies
for this cross would cost. I had all of the cross
supplies on hand. All the cross supplies would
be available at Dollar and Crafts stores for less
than $10.00. A cardboard egg carton might be
unavailable unless you buy organic cage-free
eggs. I was pleased with the Easter cross and it
would look beautiful sitting in from of our family
Bible or near my Peace Lily. This Easter Cross would
also make a nice centerpiece on an Easter Table scape.
TIPS:
**Pastel colored egg carton can be
substitute for cardboard egg carton.
** The lid tray can be replaced by
others types of stands for the cross.
The Cross Stand should match your
cross.
**Any small head flowers could go in
front of the cross (so cross would be
visible).
**Any color Easter Eggs can be used.
The eggs can be replaced with other
religious Easter theme items.
