SENIOR LADY: CHRISTMAS PROJECTS! # 3
I have two Curio Cabinets filled with them. Most of
my Angel gifts came from friends and family. I also
have Hawaiian Angel which my former boss got
on his vacation. A former co-worker gave me an
beautiful African Angel which I treasure.
I do DIY craft Angels too. Some Cherubs are
included in my projects. Five years ago I sold
five inch wooden Angels. I saved a few to go
in my Curio Cabinets.
Last week I was browsing online craft sites looking
for ideas to use for my Christmas projects. I spotted
crafts using pull tabs from canned sodas. I have a
gift bag filled with tabs and plastic bottle caps. Sure,
I rushed to see if I had enough tabs to make some of these crafts. The Angels made from pull tabs were pretty, but they looked complicated to create. Luckily, videos were included with the instructions. I plan to recycle some of my old unused craft items. This will allow me to use my own design ideas when I try to embellish my Angel creations.
Here are details for my Christmas project:
NEED:
Spool Purple Ribbon: 1\4 inch wide, 50 yards
3- Purple Mesh Gems
TOOLS:
Scissors
Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
Ruler
INSTRUCTIONS:
NOTE: MADE THREE ANGELS. ONLY GIVING
INSTRUCTIONS FOR PURPLE ANGEL. SAME
PROCESS USED FOR EXTRA ANGELS. ADDED
DIFFERENT EMBELLISHMENTS.
Need 9 pull tabs. Turn tabs so smooth round circle faces up. Glue 2 tabs so sides overlap slightly. Add
glue on bottom circle of one tab. Press bottom circle onto the back middle area of the two tabs. Overlap three tabs slightly. Press two previous tabs to back middle area of the three tabs. Gently press tabs together but, be careful not to disturb the tabs on previous rows.
Glue four tabs together & overlap sides slightly. Glue three tabs to back middle area of four tabs tabs.
Wings: Glue two sets of tabs together vertically.
Glue one set of wings on back of first tab (left
side) facing upward. Must glue second set of wings
on right side of first tab facing upward.
NOTE: IMAGE SHOWS ONE WING ON EACH SIDE.
ANGEL LOOKED BETTER WITH LONGER WINGS.
USED 2 TABS FOR EACH WING.
Glue doll head in front of first tab. Press it
down firmly. Adding facial features is optional.
Angel ready to embellish with bow, halo, and hanger.
Bow:
Used purple ribbon to make small bow @ neckline under the head. I formed flower using three small purple gems. I glued flower in center of the bow,
then glued bow in middle of neckline.
Halo: Cut 3 inches ribbon. Glue ends of ribbon
on each side of doll head to form halo over top
of doll head.
HANGER:
Cut 10 inches of ribbon. Fold in half. Make small
knot with ends of ribbon. Glue hanger to back of
middle area of doll head.
A lot of steps required to make these pull tabs Angels.
The Angels get easier to make after the first one is completed. I decided to add colored embellishments
since the grey metal looks plain. Colored gems and
ribbons enhanced the Angels.
TIPS:
**REVIEWING ONLINE TUTORIALS FOR PULL
TAB ANGELS BEFORE STARTING PROJECT.
THIS WILL MAKE PROJECT EASIER TO
COMPLETE.
**Didn't have doll heads on hand. I made
2 inches head using glue, pieces of newspaper,
& gold & silver pipe clears.
** Some tabs varied in size. Assembly was easier
when tabs were glued in front of the rows of tabs
on some Angels.
** I used hot glue gun. More glue was required if
handled to Angels roughly. Stronger glue may
be desired.
